Liege Airport x Liège Logistics Intermodal (LLI)

The Challenge

Despite a favorable environment, the region did not yet have a comprehensive multimodal system capable of effectively connecting air, rail, and road transport. To meet European goals (Green Deal, sustainable mobility strategy) and anticipate rising road transport costs, it was crucial to invest in a high-performance, scalable solution.

The Solution

In August 2024, Liege Airport and Liège Logistics Intermodal (LLI) formed a strategic partnership, marked by Liege Airport’s acquisition of a stake in LLI. This partnership enables the development of a new multimodal air–rail–road platform, divided into two major phases.

Liège’s location offers unique advantages in Europe, bringing together efficient air, road, rail, river, and sea logistics solutions within a compact area. The range of services available to logistics providers will be comprehensive and more attractive. We look forward to collaborating with LLI on the economic development of our region.

A mobility strategy to support a growing site

The growth of operations at Liege Airport—both in terms of jobs and cargo volumes—requires a transportation system that is seamless, consistent, and tailored to on-the-ground realities. In this context, the mobility strategy aims to organize traffic flows while promoting the use of complementary modes of transportation for both people and goods.

It is built around three pillars: passenger mobility, freight mobility, and the development of technologies and infrastructure.
