For the months of January and February, cumulative cargo volumes increased by 18.6% compared to the same period last year, reaching 219,807 tons. The trend is also upward for cargo aircraft movements, with the airport recording 4,653 movements in its core air cargo business (+6%).

January confirmed the upward trend in volumes, with 105,398 tons passing through the airport (an 18% increase compared to the 89,205 tons recorded in January 2025). Cargo aircraft movements also increased in January, with 2,304 movements (a 5% increase compared to the 2,193 movements recorded in January 2025).

February is a “quiet” month, but that did not prevent the number of aircraft movements from reaching 2,349 (compared to 2,190 movements in February 2025, representing a 7% increase). In February 2026, Liege Airport also recorded a 19% increase in air cargo volume (114,409 tons compared to 96,141 last year).

Exports were one of the main drivers of growth

For the airport’s core business, cargo, the first two months of this year confirmed the positive trend recorded in 2025: “Performance is very strong, with volume growth reaching +18.6% compared to the same period last year, notes Laurent Jossart, CEO of Liege Airport. This growth was fueled by a very dynamic floral season leading up to Valentine’s Day, combined with the airport’s confirmation of its position as a European leader in the e-commerce sector. Export traffic also contributed to the airport’s overall growth and saw a dramatic 25% increase during the first two months of the year (+14.6% for import traffic), with a particularly sharp 86% rise in export volumes to North America.
Liege Airport is starting the new year with some very good news. First, Emirates SkyCargo now operates up to six weekly cargo flights to our airport. These scheduled flights, operated by Boeing 777F aircraft, connect Liege Airport to Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Dubai Al Maktoum Airport three times a week, primarily for the transport of pharmaceutical products. Three flights per week also connect Hong Kong to Liège, carrying mainly e-commerce parcels. This integration marks the transition of Emirates’ operations from ad-hoc flights to a structural presence, adding 600 tons of cargo capacity per week to Liège Airport.

Inauguration of New Veterinary Facilities

In early February, Liège Airport officially inaugurated its newly renovated veterinary facilities designed for health inspections and quarantine of live animals transiting through the airport. The modernization of the border control station, renamed the LGG Vet Center, combined with the Horse Inn infrastructure, is attracting the world’s leading horse transport providers. To cite just one example, in January, Cathay Cargo transported elite show jumping horses from Liège Airport to Hong Kong for the Longines International Horse Show.

Frédéric Brun Succeeds Torsten Wefers as Interim Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Cargoland

Torsten Wefers, a member of the Executive Committee (Comex) and Vice President of Sales and Marketing since April 2022, is pursuing a new career path and will leave Liege Airport in mid-March 2026. He will be replaced by Frédéric Brun as interim Vice President of Sales and Marketing. For Laurent Jossart, CEO, this appointment is a natural progression: “It is a pleasure to announce Frédéric’s appointment as VP of Sales & Marketing, effective immediately. Frédéric has extensive experience in the air cargo and logistics sector. He joined Liege Airport in 2022 and held the key position of Head of Cargo Sales within the organization. Thanks to his expertise, strategic acumen, and in-depth market knowledge, he has made a significant contribution to the company’s business development and the strengthening of relationships with its partners. His appointment is a natural progression of his commitment and achievements within our organization. His leadership, business vision, and industry knowledge will be invaluable assets as we continue our growth and strengthen our position in our markets.”

Business is running at full speed with major successes such as the community built around flower logistics (+15% in two years). Valentine’s Day obviously contributed to this increase in flower sales. For Laurent Jossart, diversification is key: “We are intensifying our diversification, and the second rapidly growing sector is pharmaceuticals. Our specific vertical market approach is proving its relevance. It’s a major success for Cargoland. Exports are experiencing strong growth, particularly to China and the United States. The airport is maturing in terms of digitalization, and the level of quality demanded by our customers is driving progress across the entire ecosystem. However, the geopolitical situation is highly unstable due to recent events in the Middle East. This year will once again be turbulent and tumultuous for air cargo, but we remain cautiously optimistic for 2026.”
