In recent months, the Border Control Post at Liege Airport has undergone renovations to further improve the handling and inspection of live animals.

For many years, our airport has handled a significant volume of horses and live animals. In 2025, more than 3,700 horses passed through the facility. Changing health standards and increased traffic made modernization necessary.
The work improved existing infrastructure and created new spaces, particularly for large animals, quarantine areas, and small animals. A new unloading dock and an airside canopy were also installed to improve working and handling conditions.

The site’s capacity has been expanded with:
• 7 horse stalls,
• 3 livestock pens,
• 8 isolation zone spaces,
• an expanded area for small animals.

Within the PCF, AFSCA teams also manage the importation of perishable goods (fish, fruits, vegetables, flowers) through veterinary and phytosanitary inspections.
New equipment has thus been added, including a 1,400-liter refrigerator for temperature-controlled storage.
This project was carried out in collaboration with the AFSCA and the University of Liège, as well as with our technical partners UMAN Architect, BICE, and SERBI.

Thanks to this €2 million investment, the airport is further enhancing the quality of its veterinary and health services, available 24/7, to serve its customers and partners.
